Background

As a tiefling, Neela never really belonged anywhere. She was raised by her human mother alone, and was feared by the local villagers even at a very young age. That was until one day when a group of kids saw her trip. She was seven and scraped her knee badly. With no one to really help her she started to cry. She'd never been hurt much before, but this was a particularly sharp rock. Upon seeing her, the kids ganged up on her and made her life miserable after that.

Since no one really liked her, Neela had to find ways to occupy her time. Around the age of 11 she took up the lute and discovered a natural talent for it. She practiced every day, always getting better. After a few, the sound of her music seemed to soften the hearts of the villagers, and they wanted to be nice to her. Not trusting the villagers, she started to practice when no one was around. The absence of her music led the villagers to much sorrow. The sound that had been growing on them, and made them like this young girl was now taken away, as if she finally noticed they were listening. It wasn't long before she was targeted once more by the locals.

Around the age of 17 she was caught by the village kids and almost beaten to death with rocks. Cursing her fate, she healed after her birthday. 17 was as good a time as any by now, so soon after she packed up her lute and all of the gold she'd saved up, and set off on the road.

Over time she visited many places, performing in the streets and earning gold for her performances. Was she really that different back home? Everywhere else, she was accepted, so that was where she'd travel. Every where except her village could hear her music, and if she ever ran into someone from her village, she'd cut their ears off for listening to her.

The Sigil
"The world is ancient, built upon and beneath the ruins of past empires, legends and artifacts living past them--as well as terrible menaces. Shrouded in a dark age between the collapse of the last great power and the rise of the next, it endures. Minor kingdoms prosper: baronies, holdings, city-states, but the power of kings goes only as far as their riders. Settlements are points of light in the widespread darkness, havens, islands of civilization in the wilderness that covers the world. Magic is everywhere--people believe in and accept the power that magic provides. However, true masters are rare. Many people have access to a little, and it helps those living within the cities to maintain their communities. Surrounding the world, Edion, is the ether or ethereal plane which divides it from the other planes and the great Astral Sea. So welcome. Why not weave a tale or two while you're here?"
