Sabal's passion for the arcane started almost the day she was born. In the first ten years of her life she began expressing talent for arcana despite the fact that her older sister tried to beat it out of her. Instead, the older female beat out all of Sabal's respect and reverence for Lolth and her priestesses.

Ignoring the Matron's wishes, Sabal worked herself through Sorcere. Magic came as naturally to her as breathing, and the young drowess quickly bored of standard magic, delving into the darkest and most dangerous branches of arcana she could find. The cost to her soul was high, perhaps irreparable, but she was rewarded with power beyond that which Sorcere could offer her.

Sabal has often said she had only one flaw, which her sister purged her of. No one is entirely clear on what it was--Sabal went to great lengths to hide it--but being rid of it nearly pushed Sabal over the brink of insanity. She tore her sister literally to pieces in the Temple of Lolth before the sight of her family and the clergy at large.

Afterward, Sabal became more and more detached from both her family and the surrounding world, spending her time either pursuing arcane studies or in a drugged stupor. She emerged from her almost cloistered existence long enough to act as wean-mother to Neerril. Sabal returned slowly to House politics, pushing and pulling to set up her mother's downfall.

Sabal eventually murdered her mother and let Neerril take over the House as Matron, leaving with some property, money, and books as her inheritance. For a time, she worked with Azzeel Valirthe and the Shadow Knights because it kept her busy and in good practice. Her salary also paid for her drugs and other indulgences, such as new spell books. She tried to keep things professional, but found the idea of Jerran--a male human--having more authority than her abhorrent.

Eventually Sabal parted ways with the group, seeking her fortunes elsewhere. Whatever dark and malevolent star guides her, she follows it without hesitation down even the most desolate and lonely paths. The drowess will adventure with companions if the mood strikes her, but is frequently indifferent or even caustic towards them as well. She will always protect those she really comes to trust and rely upon.
