"They're leaves. I don't know," Lisette murmured. "I doubt stuffing them in the wound would help. Ask the forest spirit."

Forest spirit? He thought she was a forest spirit? Well, it could be worse. Kacela's gold-speckled eyes twinkled with amusement as the dark elf waved the leaves at his companion, but she stifled her mirth before it erupted as another wolf laugh. In a way, she supposed, she was kind of like a forest spirit. She protected the forest anyway.
Kacela stifled a sigh of frustration. She guessed she would just have to transform anyway, as the half elf didn't know how to use the herbs. She really didn't want to. But... she really did want to help. The muscles under Kacela's rich brown coat rippled like a pond on a windy day. Her eyes began to glow, and her bones shifted silently. It was a spectacle that should have been disgusting, repulsive, but was somehow graceful, even uplifting. Her tail shrank, her paws became hairless. Tan, freckled skin emerged from under thick, brown fur. Instead of a wolf, a young, feral-looking elf stood before them, her face unusually open for an elf, and clearly embarrassed. Before they could say anything, Kacela spoke in a very quiet voice that was rusty from misuse. “Pound the leaves with a smooth rock until they are mush, then mix them with a bit of pure water, smear the mixture on a cloth and wrap it around the wound. It will help.” She cleared her throat nervously and looked away, fearing judgment, then burst out, “Before you ask, I’m not a werewolf. I’m a Lythari.”

Lisette blinked, her vision blurry from blood loss. "Oh, alright then. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Forest Spirit Lythari," she said softly.

Shyn smiled. "Thanks, though I would have just taken you for a druid, myself." He went straight to work on preparing the leaves to make a wound healing ointment for Lisette. "Any other recommendations for helping her, while you're here?"

Shyndinn wasn't concerned with the Lythari. He'd seen a lot of terrible things performed in the Underdark against those that weren't liked. She wasn't attacking, and hadn't been stalking them that he knew, so she was fine. It was actually amazing that he still had a kind nature.

He pounded and ground the leaves as much as he could, until they were a fine paste. Then, he set about changing Lisette's bandages, and applying the paste to them.

The young Lythari stood still for a moment, digesting what she’d just heard. A slow smile crept across her features as she realized she’d made a good choice in helping these people. The smile faded as she got a closer look at the wound. She slipped around the Dark Elf and leaned close, trying to discern if anything vital had been hit. The stomach was a ridiculously vulnerable area, and the herbs wouldn’t help in the long-run if the arrow had pierced her liver or some other organ. Satisfied that the half elf was safe in that respect, she backed up slightly and turned back to the Dark Elf. “Tie the bandage very tight,” she said in her soft voice. “When the arrow was removed, it severed many arteries, though her organs appear fine. The herbs should help to stop the bleeding and speed the healing, but the cloths must press the edges of the wound together for it to work. How far is that place you mentioned, Shadowwynne?” She paused and blinked. “Also, my name is Kacela Ennokaida. What is yours?”

Shyndinn nodded and apologized profusely to Lisette as he ensured the wound was closed, and tied the bandages as tightly as he dared. When he finished, he backed up a couple of steps to give Lisette some space. He took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled as he looked over his work.

He turned to Kacela and nodded. "Thanks again, Kacela." He gave an introductory bow, and gave her a smile. "I'm Shyndinn Blackleaf. Yes, it's a Drow first name, and I'll answer to Shyn, Shyndinn, or just about anything that's not insulting. Shadowwynne's about two days away from here, if I don't stop riding. I think I'll need to rest at some point though."

“Shyndinn Blackleaf,” she said softly, sounding the name out on her tongue. She liked the way it flowed from one syllable to the next. Returning his bow, she cast a critical eye over the small saddle bags strapped the horses, though she didn’t dare get too close. She’d never seen a horse before, but she was afraid they might smell wolf on her and bolt, dragging the lady half elf with them. Her voice had grown louder as she once again grew used to the patterns of speech, thought it was still very quiet. “Do you have many supplies? I could get meat easily enough, but you cannot eat the meat raw, can you? A fire would attract enemies.” The gold flecks in her eyes sparked and began to dance dizzyingly. “Who are your enemies?” Perhaps the Dark Elf could ride to the city and fetch some help, but only if there were enough supplies to keep the half elf alive for five or six days. Kacela wasn’t worried about herself; unlike these elves, she could, and often did, eat meat raw. She could probably reach the city faster than him, but she didn’t know her way around cities, and then they’d need more supplies anyway. The half elf would need at least a few days of rest and herbs before she could travel anywhere. She glanced at the human, hiding her wariness. Would he help?
However, before Shyndinn left, she would need to take care of any threats. Whoever would attack these two travelers was a threat, both to the injured elf and to Kacela’s home. She could not allow that.

Shyn laughed and just shook his head. "Zhlaass, qunnessaa kal'daka," (Relax, fairy-wolf) he said in Drow with a grin. "I believe we have plenty of supplies to get to Shadowwynne," he said assuredly as he pointed to a small pile of belongings off to one side. He'd had to take them out when he made the canvas into the stretcher that Lisette was on now.

"Also, we shook the trail of our enemies for the time being. It's a group of mercenaries after Lisette. I just happened to get caught up in the mess. They aren't that much of a problem. They had the advantage of surprise and numbers before. I can handle them, knowing what to expect now."

He absently wondered what was running through the Elf's head as she seemed to be a fountain of curiosity. The Dark Elf bent down and started gathering some of the supplies to find a way to organize them efficiently in the few packs that were readily available to him.

"Shapeshifting?" Sauron glanced at the fairy-elf curiously, with none of them paying much attention to him , he was busy making mental notes . Tracing the slight flux of magic that surrounded her he made a point to ask her of 'condition' later, he glanced Lisette and made a note of her blood loss" A transfusion would be necessary, to speed up the healing." Sauron noted "But which one of them is more comaptable?" he ruminated further glancing at both Shyn and Kacela.
"Should not the injured be fed?" he asked Shyn, considering him to be the camp in charge, shrugging his shoulders he continued" like I mean since you all may be stuck here for some time, why not be comfortable while waiting?." .Checking his bags and the recent purchase he had, images of hot steaming stews and meat popped in his mind quickly to be replaced by the current situation.
Turning slightly towards Kacela he blinked mischievously to acknowledge her.

"I will have you all know that I am in fact present and listening. And I would prefer not to be referred to as 'the injured'," Lisette said with surprising crispness for someone in her position. The half elf groaned a little as she sat up, grateful that the arrow had punctured her in the ribs and not the stomach. Still, she could move. But she wanted--no, needed--to be on the road to Shadowynne. What if someone went after her family too? Concern for her household was at the forefront of her mind now, closely followed by a maelstrom of anger.

What kind of craven knave would dare send assassins rather than face her himself? It was cowardly and honor-less behavior that demanded punishment, and struck Lisette as an insult worse than any blow to her person.

"Shyn, we should leave as soon as possible. I feel...better, though perhaps well is not the most accurate word. Kacela, you have my undying gratitude for coming to our aid," she said, holding her ribs. They burned, and the broken one generated fresh agony every time she breathed.

Kacela blushed slightly; why hadn’t she noticed the supply packs off to the side? Oh well. Shyndinn didn’t really seem to mind, though she expected he would soon tire of her questions. Her blush deepened, and she tilted her head forward so curtains of mahogany hair would hide it, at least partially. Lucky her skin was so tan, or it would be obvious. She was curious by nature, and she hadn’t had a conversation with a person who didn’t want to kill her in... Thirty years? Forty?
The Lythari lifted her head at Lisette’s words and came forward. “Is that broken? I can fix that. And… you are welcome. Might I… May I accompany you? I have never left my forest, and I know nothing outside of the trees. But… it is lonely here.” Kacela placed a cool hand on Lisette’s rib, icy cold magic flowing around the broken bone and mending it slowly. Broken bones were easy; all you had to do was push the ends together and bind them. Gaping wounds were much more complicated. The skin was easy to fix, but blood vessels were complicated, and she had no skill whatsoever in replenishing blood or strength.
So, it was mercenaries. Easy enough to hunt; greedy men have a scent all their own. It would be easy, so easy… she could kill them quickly. Unlike her kin, she did not balk at killing, nor did she find blood so vile-tasting. She did not enjoy it, but neither did she hate it. It was necessary. But… what if she had a chance to leave? If she went chasing after the mercenaries now, what would she do after she had killed them? What was there left in the forest for her, besides the bones of her family and the loneliness that lingered in her heart like a bad dream? Wolves are by nature pack animals, and the song of the lone wolf is the saddest sound in the world. It was a song she had been singing for more than forty years now, ever since her entire family had been slaughtered by werewolves. Her pack had been small, and they had no metal weapons, no paper or written language. She knew how to speak several different languages, including Elvish, Common, Drow, and Goblin, but she could not write at all. She did not know about the world around her, and it was likely that she never would unless she left now. After all, what were the chances she would get such an opportunity again? Of course, that was only if they wished her to accompany them. She hoped they would. Part of her cringed and wanted to stay in the shadows, but her heart was broken- no, shattered- and it would never recover from the deaths of her family unless she moved on. Unless she left the only place she had ever known, and she did not have the courage to go alone.

Shyn shrugged. "I'm not in the habit of turning away friendly company, and Gods know I could use a hand in protecting Lisette if it comes to it." He had an unnatural curiosity himself. It was merely hiding in the current situation. Once things started to relax, it would pop out once more and he'd probably be asking the endless questions.

He barely managed to pack the first round of supplies, and started trying to fit the second. He paused and gave Kacela a warm smile. "It's the least I can do as thanks for all of the help you've been. I'm not sure how long after Shadowwynne I'll be traveling with Lisette though. If we split, you might have make an interesting choice."

His spare food managed to get wedged into cracks of space, and all of the leftover trinkets were piled into his bedroll, and tied onto the back of one horse. When he was certain nothing would be lost, even if they traveled like lightning, he smiled and gave his handiwork an accomplished nod. "If you can deal with that, I'd be happy to have you along."

"Absolutely," Lisette agreed, trying to get up to her feet. She just couldn't stay in bed like a proper wounded person. There was too much to do. "I owe you my life. That is worth far greater recompense than simply traveling with us. If anything, that might almost be considered a punishment. And Shyndinn, I do not need protecting. I can handle myself just fine. That archer had a lucky shot and poison on his side."

Kacela bowed her head in thanks and returned Shyndinn’s smile and nodded. “I suppose I’ll just have to cross that bridge when I get there.” She started to help him pack, saw that he was mostly finished, then turned to Lisette and put a firm hand on her shoulder. “If you want to help, the best thing to do would be to lie still,” she informed the half elf softly. “Recover your strength so that Shyndinn does not have to protect you if your enemies catch up with us. Keep a lookout for them.” The young wolf-elf offered Lisette a small smile, then turned to human, and said, “I believe that there will be time for food later. Now, we must make haste.”
The Lythari looked at Shyndinn. “I travel faster as a wolf, and my senses are sharper as well. I will run beside the horses and keep a rearguard. Does that sound alright?”

Shyndinn nodded. "You are free to do as you please. I'd rather you were an an elf though. It's one more person to talk to on the road. One can only listen to Lisette cursing Magebane so many times," he said with a smirk, and then a light laugh.

"I'm kidding. You can be a wolf, or an elf. We have this fancy hammock for anyone injured, and two horses. If Lisette lies down, you could ride. Mine's as brave as a war horse. I don't know about Lisette's."

His violet eyes scanned the temporary campsite once more, making sure that nothing was left behind. When his eyes fell on Kacela once again, he gave her another warm smile. "See anything I missed? I always forget something..."
