Annette frowned. "But nothing's moving." She said slowly. "Should we take a look around?"

The Doctor frowned a bit, looking around. "I dunno," he murmured. He stepped back and turned, heading back to the lobby they had come from. Everything was silent, but there was a soft clicking sound.
A statue near the reception desk slowly turned the mobile head on it. The statue itself was an abstract form, but there was a face on it, a real, moving human face. "Welcome," it said. "I am Courtesy Node 710/aqua. Please enjoy the Library and respect the personal access codes of all your fellow readers regardless of species or hygiene taboo."

Annette yelped a bit and stepped back out of reflex. She had no idea what that person was. She covered her mouth.

The Doctor glanced at her and smiled a bit. "It's just a statue," he said. "Like a... information center..."
The thing continued. "Additional. There follows a brief message from the head librarian for your urgent attention. It has been edited for tone and content by Felman Lux Automated Decency Filter. Message follows. "Run. For God's sake, run. No way is safe. The Library has sealed itself, we can't... Oh, they're here. Arg. Slarg. Snick." Message ends. Please switch off your mobile comm units for the comfort of other readers."
The Doctor frowned deeply at that. "So that's why we're here," he murmured. "Any other messages? Same date stamp?"
"One additional message. This message carries a Felman Lux coherency warning of 5, 0, 11..."
"Yeah yeah, fine, just play the message."
"Message follows. "Count the shadows. For God's sake, remember... if you want to live, count the shadows." Message ends."
The Doctor frowned and slowly looked around. "Annette," he said slowly. "Stay out of the shadows."

Annette frowned and stepped toward him in the light some more. She swallowed a bit. "Did those people die?" She whispered.

The Doctor nodded a bit, and moved down the hall with her, away from the node, into a hall with high shelves above them. "Sorry, kinda sorta lied," he said. "Got a message on my psychic paper." He pulled out a tiny notebook and flipped it open, showing her the message.
The Library. Come as soon as you can. x

The Doctor smiled a bit. "Paper that's psychic," he said. "It'll show people whatever I want it to. And sometimes it picks up things from people." He shrugged a bit. But he frowned, his gaze sweeping to behind her.
One light down the hall went out, and then another, the hallway slowly getting darker. "Um Annette."

Annette turned around and frowned deeper. "Oh god." She said slowly. She swallowed a bit and move behind the Doctor. "We should run."

The Doctor grabbed her hand and ran to the nearest door. But it was locked. He shook it a little, trying to fiddle with the lock. As he did, the lights kept getting dimmer, and closer...

Annette sighed roughly and looked to him. She pushed him aside and pulled out a bobby pin from her hair, fiddling with it, trying to pick it. She sighed a bit and turned the knob opening it. "GO!"

The Doctor blinked a bit but quickly closed the doors behind them, sliding a book into the handles to keep it closed. He turned around and smiled a bit. "Well hello there," he said. "Sorry to intrude but can we stay here for a minute?" A strange orb was floating in the center of the room. It looked wooden on the outside and was prettily carved. It blipped off though and fell to the floor as they walked closer.

The Doctor pursed his lips a bit and shrugged, going over. He knelt down and gently picked it up, looking it over.

Annette frowned a bit and looked back to the door and around the shadows. She swallowed hard and crossed her arms. "What is it?"
