Hixon nodded, slowly studying him though. "You're not so old," he murmured. "And you know no one would ever hear it from me if he weren't here in the morning." He touched the man's arm briefly before walking back to his own tent.

Ulyssus's head turned until Hixon disapeared. He moved inside his sons tent, who was still making arrows.
"Son..." He murmured.
"Yes father? I'm...getting ready. I'm ready to fight for out lives. I'm ready to fight in the honor of my brothers." He breathed, scraping at the metal hard.
Ulyssus saw how adament he was about this. He sat down and picked up an arrow. "You're one of the best archers. You know." He murmured. "The captain is thinking of promoting you to head."
Tekan paused for a bit. "I...don't deserve that." He went back to scraping arrowheads.
Ulyssus nodded slowly. "You've been shooting since you were four. I remember when we made your first bow out of a stick and some twine from your mother's spinner basket."
Tekan kept quiet.
"You were meant for great things, my son. I sometimes fear that...it will be robbed of you before you could finish."
Tekan stopped a little and shook his head. "I overheard, father. I'm not going. I need to fight tomorrow."

Ulyssus smiled and chuckled before putting a hand on his son's shoulder. "And you will be great."

Hixon rose early the next morning and went to Ulyssus's tent once he was ready. He was one of the fighters that usually stuck close to Ulyssus, higher ranked in his unit of the army. And his familiarity with the family let him stick close to all of them.

Ulyssus washed up with a damp cloth, his chest barren. He had many scars of battle. He looked to the seas and nodded. They were beginning to rage. "May Neptune gather his power. If it rains this morning, Hixon, it would douse the torches in the enemies fort. They will not be able to see us coming when night falls." He smiled wide and nodded. "That is when we plan to take a small group inside to infilatrate the towers and open the gates."

Hixon nodded. "A solid plan," he said quietly. "Has that group been chosen yet?"

Ulyssus nodded. "Yes. I, Partheon, Themus, Jarken and Feliude." He said easily. "We could use another man if you're up for it." He said, looking over and nodding once.

Ulyssus nodded and smiled, clapping a hand on Hixon's shoulder and grabbing his polished armor. "Good. Let's assemble our group. My son is all ready in his position."

Hixon nodded, helping him with his armor. He was already prepared entirely. As they walked out of the tent, he grabbed the spear he always carried, having leaned it against the tent before entering. He walked along besides Ulyssus until they got the others.

There was a ping, and another, and then another as the rain welled up and fell, sprinkling the troops lightly. He looked to the skys, which had turned red. "Red in the morning, hmm?" He said, putting on his helment, horse hairs perfectly positioned on top to signify his rank. He looked to the hundreds of men behind him, and the fifty he commanded. "We flank right!" He called out, and others shouted orders too. Scouts scurried down the slipperly cliff, informing them that the fort seemed unaware of their impeding attack.
Ulyssus nodded to Hixon before pulling his troops to the right and up the cliff side.

Hixon nodded obediently and followed Ulyssus close. He marched in line with the others, but he would easily break rank for the older man. He followed along, easily keeping up.

Ulyssus pulled his troops along to the top of the cliff, then along atop the valley. The fort rested inland, in a valley that was steep and squarish. Ulyssus traced the outside as the men in the middle skidded down the cliff down the middle.
He stopped and signaled everyone to stay low.

Hixon crouched, slipping forward to kneel near Ulyssus. "Are we climbing the walls?" he whispered.

The Fort Charge
by Ulyssus AusticarPM Member on Sat, 5 Feb 2011 14:01

Ulyssus shook his head. "Straight ahead." He pointed. See how the cliff meets the corner? Foolish of them. If this rain holds up we will be able to sneak across easily. If not then we will have a fight on our hands. The fifty I will send down the left side of the cliff when the battle as begun. You and I and the others will have to wait it out." He sighed. "We have the most important of duties. We must remain alive long enough to carry them out."

Hixon nodded slowly. "Is that the best plan though?" he asked quietly. "Wouldn't our smaller group be harder to spot?"
